The following review is the opinion of the review's author [Ganc]
and in no way represents the opinions of this website or its staff.
Thorns of War is a combination RPG and Sim which is played through
your browser. Unlike your typical RPG the entire world began as a vast
forest filled only with streams and monsters, ready for players to
build every road, cottage, fortress, bridge, and shop. Unlike your
typical Sim you take on the role of an individual character, building
his or her wealth, skills, and renown within a world filled with
numerous other real people vying to make their mark. Its free to play
with an option to buy a payed account which lets you build an hire
hirelings.
There is a mini-map which makes it quite easy to see whats happening
around you, and movement is very easy as well, along with a atlas which
shows towns and your current position in the game.
You start in this world as a new player without any skills or
money(silver ruks) on the docks in Brygga for Thulars or in
Stonebridge for Gaeldors. There are a load of skills to practice and
learn including your combat skills like melee and swords your Lore
skills like tracking and hiding and crafting skills like woodworker
and jeweler and many more.
Nearly every item is crafted by players. You can find copper in the
mines and pan tin, gems, gold and silver in the streams. You can hunt
creatures like deer for sinew, leather and meat.
You can hire hirelings to chop, pan, dig stones and clay, and guard
your holdings. You can build buildings from a small hut to a cottage,
tower and even a fort.
ToW is always being improved and there is a new PvP and incredibly
large area which has springs which can be panned for mithril and
streams which give high amounts of gold, silver and gems. There are war
machines like onagers and ballistas which can be used in the PvP area.
The players are very newbie-friendly and will be happy to help any
new players. There is a player made wiki at www.thornsofwar.wikia.com
and a player made forum at http://thornsofwarcommunity.freeforums.org/
The thing most needed for this game is a larger amount of players.
