The following review is the opinion of the review's author [Thokar] and in no way represents the opinions of this website or its staff.

I've played EverDark now for several years and in all of that time
the game continually renews itself. There are so many fun aspects to
the mud that there's always another goal to strive towards. That
being said, I just want to say a few things about two of the things
that makes everdark special... the quality of the setting and our
unique player-killing system.

The overall setting of EverDark is somewhat Tolkienish, with a feudal
times of knights mixed with the lore and evidence of dragons and orc,
elves and dwarves, and all manner of creature in between. Of course,
the way you play is totally up to you, everdark leaves the choices of
how you look and even what race and physical traits you wish to show,
solely at your discretion.

The quality of the mud's room description can really set the
standard for the whole playing experience, and this is where EverDark
leaves many other muds in the dust. The majority of rooms within this
realm have several layers of details you can reveal through close
scrutiny. This adds to the quality in that this realm is not a
cookie-cutter prepatterned mud, but a unique and high-quality
environment. This, in addition to the overall appealing setting work
to pull the player in and entertain to no end.

Another unique feature that players may choose to pursue is our
player-killing system, often referred to in short as Xal. Basically at
level 18 or above you may become Xal if you wish, and may battle and
hunt other Xal players. If you do not wish to participate that is fine
as well, simply don't opt into becoming Xal.

The main thing that makes our player-killing system so extraordinary
is how much actual skill is required to defeat your opponents. The
guilds and their skills as well as the level and stat system are
balanced so well, that a person with skill could be level 18 of any
guild and potentially defeat a level 30 player. When pking, the battle
is a open=system where there is no limitations on regular movements,
allowing for strategic retreats or all out attacks and so much
variety. Pking isn't everyone's thing, and that's fine...but it is
great fun for many others and its a very unique feature that EverDark
offers its players.
