The following review is the opinion of the review's author [Chaz]
and in no way represents the opinions of this website or its staff.
I used to like Windy City. In the beginning, since before the server
change (the game was hosted elsewhere before currently an I had a
number of years there as well) It was a place where people socialized
and wanted to experience some semblance of the Anita Blake universe.
But in the number of years since, the game has gone continually down
hill. There are many reasons. Predominantly the fact that 90% of
the playerbase rarely leaves their private rooms where they either
sit there and idle for uberhours or they pair up for continual TS.
And if they aren't in their rooms, they are set not to be found.
You can say what you will, that I am over exaggerating and lying but
if you say that you are mistaken. The idea of a roleplaying
game is to play a role. That usually infers some kind of
sociability. But when you do not leave your hiding places, ever,
that sense of social interaction tends to go to the wind.
As staff goes, I have mixed reviews. I love Lyle, The Big Daddy of
Windy City. He is probably the most helpful staffer I have ever
met. Some of the others? Nowhere near as much. As we speak a
friend of mine has been hanging in for over a week on her character's
BG review from the staffer Melpomene. Even my friend agress that she
could redo her BG, that it wasn't her BEST effort ever, but to get
almost no word for OVER a working week while OTHER characters are
getting ok'd in less then 2 hours? That smells suspicious to no
end, especially when my friend finally brought it up the staffer in
question basically told her that she has no time (too busy oking
OTHER players, I imagine) and that if she wanted answers now they
would be blunt and unpleasant.
And this is only one of four incidents I could name with varying
players over the past 2 months.
Beyond that there has been an influx of new players showing up. That
shouldn't be a bad thing but how is it that new characters, less than
a month old, can out power vampires and werewolves who have been
playing 5+ years, gaining constant experience, when all characters
are supposed to get similar points to start off? Again, suspicious.
A game is supposed to be fair, balanced, and someplace where people
can enjoy themselves together.. not for just a numbered few. I don't
care if some people don't like each other. That is going to happen.
but to act it out in such ways is unforgivable.
