The following review is the opinion of the review's author [Monami] and in no way represents the opinions of this website or its staff.

Dragonball Infinity started out with an easy enough idea in mind; A
place for fans of the DBS codebase and game to continue spending their
relentless hours playing. They even decided to try and make the MUD
more RP orientated, with new rewards and a system in which roleplaying
increased a players gains.

After being around from when they started, the builders have
introduced a lot more areas to go with the originals from DBSaga. The
code, has changed a lot as well. Each race has perky new skills, and
with the ‘new’ racial ranking system that they’re currently working
on, and slowly implementing, there is an actual incentive to stay
ahead of others instead of just being able to brag about being
stronger than someone else, or being able to kill them and the like.
Raising your powerlevel isn’t all that hard to figure out, if you’ve
played the original DBSaga, or any of the other spin-offs; its all
practically the same, just different areas to gain off now.

The original roleplaying system, which lets face it wasn’t all that
complicated to begin with, has been replaced with an exciting system,
in which you have to be rewarded with roleplaying points in order to
invoke the new ‘skills’. This does make things more complicated mind
you, but hey, what better way to RP than with complications?. No more,
is there a hundred different people all firing off Kamehameha’s at
each other. Now each person has their own unique attacks – basically
renamed alist skills, with a few odd twists here and there.

DBI has also incorporated RP into in-game, by introducing a
‘signature attack’, which costs you a certain amount of RPP to make an
entirely custom attack. You set the damage, the focus it requires to
use, and the amount of energy used. Nifty idea, if you ask me.

Now the playerbase has slightly dropped off since i’ve been back. But
don’t think that a bad thing. I’m sure they’ll all be back once the
new ‘changes’ have been made. Either that or we’ll get new players to
grace DBI with their presence. The ‘Newbie Council’ does run here, but
it seems like its just an extra channel for most people on it. I
rarely see a NC member helping people out. Sure, the odd occasion, but
most of the time its random people of the MUD being friendly and
helping each other out. I honestly think that the NC is a waste here,
and should be revamped, or taken away from the MUD entirely.

Now it all isn’t amazing. Some areas could be improved; like the RP
rewards for one. The current reward system seems so linear. You
basically ‘buy’ what you see on the list, so its not unlike spending
money at a shop in game. The items you can acquire throughout the
game, RP-Rewards, quests, super-mobs, and however else you can get
them seem a bit too overpowered for my liking. But, that’s just my
logic, which doesn’t represent the rest of the p-base. In saying that
though, you do need decent items in order to get really strong. A few
of the areas I’ve visited in game have very strong—if not overpowered
mobs, and not having good stats will get you killed. The playerbase
does have its few jerks, but honestly, which MUD doesn’t?

Some rules can be over-enforced, and if an admin has an opinion on
the situation, you have to abide by their decision no matter what the
rules themselves say. Annoying at most, but not really game
threatening. The staff is competent, with only a few that don’t really
seem to do anything but play mortals or screw around basically. Its
almost that being female grants you immunity from certain rules, or
exempt from criticism. It does help to make friends here to ask for
help with things, like quests or just general gaming questions.

In saying all that, I find DBI a great place to spend my free time,
trying in vain to get those ‘1337’ items that all the stronger
characters seem to have doubles of, and trying to get on level terms.
DBI compared to the original DBSaga, well, it’s a tight one. Maybe DBI
ahead in the 3rd quarter by 5.
