The following review is the opinion of the review's author [Jack Becccum] and in no way represents the opinions of this website or its staff.

Forgotten Kingdoms is a MUD that tops all muds, hands down. I've
read many reviews here but I do not lie, this game has it all.
However, there's always pros and cons to games so I'll take a moment
to list them.

Pros ==== 1. The game has a beautiful interface system that shows a
map, mobs, and items. My hat really goes off to the coders on this
because it's what captured my eye.

2. The areas and rooms are colored nicely, detailed (for the most
part, old, old areas still have rather simple desc's)

3. A great deal of time has been put in to make the game DnD-like and
for the most part it's right on. Guilds are in place, skills are in
place, and the races are both numerous and fun to play.

4. When RP happens it's (for the most part) fun.
5. The game is organized and has a nice system in which to voice
views. The website is awesome and lists guilds, policies, and a forum
which is very effective.

6. The utter Newb is treated like gold, they have an effective system
to help Newbies.

Cons ==== 1. Favoritism. It's highly evident but it
shouldn't be too bad if you don't aspire to be anything special
which is still insanely fun to play.

2. Politics. It's said that you have to play the game according to
IC actions but it isn't entirely so. You need to know who you're
dealing with (Newbie Council Member, IMM-Alt, a friend of a 'made
man') because it can all come back to haunt you later on. Or, if you
plan to progress in the game to a hero position, it will put a damper
on your standing.

3. RP usually consists of player run dealings with members of
opposite faiths or dealing with someone who has disrespected you or
your faith. IMM run RPs are usually set aside for favorites unless you
have done something wrong.

4. The average player is practically ignored. Unless you're an utter
Newbie or a Favorite don't expect to do anything too great or fun.

5. Policies are restricting. They have many policies, many of which
make sense but a good handful that don't, and a few unwritten
policies which could be damaging if you don't know about them.

To summarize, the game is perfection when it comes to code and the
occasional RP. Playing into game politics can cause a headache and is
usually not worth it. The game is basically an EQ-Hacky-Slashy game
with loose RP, which is far less accurate from what the front page
says.

I've had fun with the RP and the fighting aspects and despite all of
the politics to be had, everyone should give it a try.
