The following review is the opinion of the review's author [Thrain] and in no way represents the opinions of this website or its staff.

The Underworld is a classic and excellent mud. With over
13,000 rooms, there is plenty to explore. Yet, it remains
very newbie-friendly. The players on the mud are all
great and willing to help out anyone who is new
to the mud, or even new to mudding in general. There are
also usually several immortals on to answer you trickier
questions.

A short but informative Newbie School brings you up to speed
quickly, and is also be useful for experienced mudders to
learn the ins and outs of the Underworld. Once out of the
school, the main town of provides a solid home base for your
future explorations. There are several interesting and unique
zones to explore even at the earliest levels. A fantasy
chess board right out of Alice in Wonderland, a zoo full
of exotic creatures, and a treetop village full of dryads
are just a few of the lower-level zones available right away.

The early levels go by fairly quickly, and after a few hours
or days on the mud you'll be ready to range out into the
countryside and check out the full range the mud has to offer.
In 7 years of playing the mud there are still places I have
never been, and even more that I haven't fully explored. Plus,
new zones are added fairly often to keep the game spiced up
for the older players.

Beyond exploring, there are 8 basic character classes. These
can be combined together for multi-class characters, and there
are an additional 3 'remort' classes available to higher-level
players that give the mud another dimension to explore. The
skill system is simple to understand, but full of interesting
and unique offerings. Many of the spells, skills, and classes
on the Underworld are offered nowhere else.

Something has kept me coming back to the Underworld for 7 years.
Beyond everything I've said, it is just a fun and relaxing place.
People are always willing to just hang out and chat, or take
on a challenge just for the sake of trying it.

So drop by and say hello sometime. If I'm around I'll be sure
to help you get started.
