The following review is the opinion of the review's author [Sam Casey]
and in no way represents the opinions of this website or its staff.
I have been a player on continents for about 5 years now and I must
say it's been one heck of a ride. I have gone through the classes of
ninja, thief, mage, cleric, paladin and warrior. My subclasses include
alchemist, supplier and smith. I have been everywhere, done
everything, massed great knowledge of the world, risen to greatness on
several occasions and fallen from grace more than I'd like to
remember. My characters have become well known to everyone here.
Recently the mud has undergone several changes to it's structure.
While the Roleplay is alright at times, there are several problems
with these new changes. These changes has caused great concern among
the players. Up until recently you were able to purchase supplies from
the mob shops. Supplies like sand for bottlemaking, leather for
parchment making, tools for wrights, so on and so forth. Those
supplies have been removed. You can still obtain them from the other
players, but who wants to pay 50,000gp for one piece of sand when
you need 3 to make a bottle? It has gotten to the point to where the
champions of the world (that's achieving 75th level twice) have
nothing to do but sit around doing nothing. There are maybe at most 20
players online on a good night, as few as 7 or 8 normally. That is no
way enough to maintain a working economy of this nature.
Another problem is the shops. You can spend a day or two walking the
world gathering stock for a shop, but when the server reboots, if the
store is open, all the items in your shop is lost. This was brought up
to the staff by me. The reply I got was 'oh well.'.
The IMMs have a good idea about how the world is supposed to work,
but in order for this kind of system to work you would need 50 people
on regularly, which we do not have. It has gotten to the point that
we can't go out and kill mobs because we don't have the tools, we
can't make the tools because we have no supplies, we can't get
supplies because either A) there are no suppliers to get them from or
B) they are just too expensive to buy. So we are just restricted to
sitting around doing nothing.
After spending two to three months achieveing the rank of Champion, I
would think that would be the time to start doing something, but
actually that's where the fun ends and the boredom begins.
