The following review is the opinion of the review's author [Disappointed] and in no way represents the opinions of this website or its staff.

I was first refered to this MUD by a close friend of mine, who has
been a player for a couple of years. From the way she talked about
the MUD it seemed like a great game to be a part of.

There is a large selection of classes and races, and things stay
true mainly to most aspects of 3rd edition D&D. There is a massive
world, lots of players, and good roleplay. Friendly and helpful
staff.

Unfortunately for me, I did not get to experience most of these
things, as from what I observed about the MUD, if you are an older
player, or long time player, you receive attention from the gods or
the 'Newbie Council' - a collection of long term players who help
newbies out with questions. If you are a new player, however, your
luck is limited. The mud does not treat newbies well. Let me
correct that. The mud does, but by and large any of the
supposed 'help' available to newbies is often given by rude answers
from the Newbie Council, whom try to make you feel indebted they
took time out of their busy schedules to help you with getting
accustomed to the mud.

You will either be ignored by the council (whom I was assured
several members of which were online) or when answered will be made
to feel stupid and indebted. That is why I have left this mud. I
might consider rejoining, if the interaction was improved to a
point where people treated each other with respect. We are all
newbies to start off with, and there should not be little cliques
that rule the mud.

I feel this mud could become good in time, once they realise that
all players are worthy of respect. If you are able to handle
rudeness or being ignored, then this mud will work fine for you.

First, I would like to let it be known that I am 'disappointed'. A
time ago I played several characters incluiding Lukian, Emistal, and
Mortifisce. Now I play only one character. But the fact that after
coming back, and putting on 314 hours in a matter of under 2 months
AFTER having been deleted, should present itself as to my opinion of
this mud.

At the time that I had posted the prev2ious review regarding
Forgotten kingdoms, I had JUST been deleted, and while I treated the
staff with every ounce of respect I could muster, I felt as though
something were being taken away from me. Naturally, I had to do
-something- out of spite. Poor form on my part. It is my hope that
anyone reading this post understand that -I- was at fault. -I- ruined
my chances at enjoying the mud. But as luck would have it, not all of
that was true, which is to say, (as you read before) even this day I
play Forgotten kingdoms. And in time, I may even be able to be part of
the newbie help which I so arrogantly hammered before.

Well, first it'd be nice to know who you are. Anonymous player
reviews are rather like spam e-mail in my book - useless and annoying.

I can't speak for others, only for myself as a Newbie Council member.
I always try to be as helpful as I can to other players no matter
what. Unfortunately, there are always those few who are never happy
no matter what answers you give or what you do for them. I might not
be a staff member, but I've taken my fair share of abuse from new
players because they feel they aren't getting sufficient attention.

1. It's only a game!

And many of us have real lives that sometimes draw us away from the
computer. If I happen to be on during the day while I'm at work, I
may have to suddenly go AFK without any sort of warning. Real life
takes precedence. If I happen to get back and see someone needed
help, I'll follow up and make sure they got it. Some of us have bad
lag or horrible connections. But what it all boils down to is that
Forgotten Kingdoms is just a game. If you're that upset, turn the
computer off and walk away.

2. We're only human!

We make mistakes. We have mood swings. Maybe you read too much into
a reply to your question? Maybe you didn't read enough? The help
files are always the first line of defense. If you don't find your
answers there, THEN ask for help over the Question channel. Don't be
surprised if someone suggests you read the help files. Many players
ask questions without ever bothering to read the extensive help files.

3. Roleplay is enforced!

Many newbies seem to want to ignore this. I had one trying to get my
phone number and asking all kinds of personal questions! Another got
upset because he was asked to improve his character description. I
find that most people who leave 'disappointed' are those who come to
Forgotten Kingdoms expecting your run-o-the-mill hack-n-slash MUD
where you can twink your way to 50th level in a few hours and find
all the 133t equipment by the end of the day. Sorry, but it doesn't
work that way.

Another big no-no is asking OOC for IC things such as equipment
or quest solutions. This tends to be a problem for newbies
who expect to have everything handed to them on a silver platter.
Like anything worth having, if you play by the rules, make an effort
at roleplay and treat those around you with the same respect you wish
in return, you'll reap the rewards.

To me, this review sounds more like the 'disappointed' grumblings of
a problem player who has either been banned or is on the verge of it.

I feel regardless of him showing his real name or not shouldn't
matter. Spam e-mails contain nothing of content but crap offers. His
review contained his opinion and it should be recognized. It's plain
to see from many of the people that I played with that this game is
full of those who suck up and full of those who are treated like
criminals.

I feel they both were simply right in their opinions and it doesn't
matter who they are. They have a perfect reason to share their
opinion, players such as them and myself won't want to play this MUD
and it's only fair to spare them the headaches we went through.

I am very disappointed to hear this as well...
and I am sorry to see how much your review offended
some people, since I believe everyone is entitled
to their own opinion. I am sorry you had such a
bad experience on Forgotten Kingdoms, as it has been
the only mud I have ever played and loved.

We try our best to help out all newbies, but unfortunately,
not everyone has been in the game as long as a lot of
these players, and perhaps don't have the same values as
most started with. You have to realize that some people
play evils... and don't help at all... unless you ask out
of character. Also, the newbie council, while it has
many players, is really just starting to get more people
added, and perhaps the council is not always on or
involved in a heavy roleplay. I hope you will come back
and give us another try. Look up any one of my
characters (Rictinta, Daediana, Aliaga), I would be more
than happy to show you around and perhaps help you get
started in the world of Forgotten Kingdoms. Look forward
to meeting you if you decide to come back!!!
