Rage of Vengeance is a fine modified Smaug mud in the Emlen tradition
of full pkill Racewars MUDs. It's very newbie friendly, with a hints
channel and helpful players and immortals. It can be difficult at
first, as it's different from most other styles of mudding, but it's
relatively easy to pick up.
The mudmap is huge and logically laid out, with tons of secrets to
discover and numerous quests. Learning the map is your friend, as
most fighting takes place far from home, and skills and spells are
spread all over the map. Luckily, it's very well constructed and
intuitive, so that you don't generally have to memorize specific
directions - just remember the general way you need to go, and you'll
get where you're going.
The pkill system is fast-paced and always interesting. Fighting is a
lot more than button mashing or pointing and clicking or repetitive
quaffing. You live and die by your timing and your intuition and your
tactics.
Levelling is easy at first, with all characters of levels 1 to 35 in
the same range for experience (they can group), and a large range
after that - 1.5 times your level. That is, level 30 characters are
in range with level 45, and 45 with 57. There is a remorting system,
with as many as 6 chances to relevel with new powers, but your
character can be plenty useful without any remorting.
Come give it a shot; I've played for years and heartily recommend it.
One of the best pkill muds out there, with heavy rewards for
exploration as well.
