Age of Legends: Tales of the Lance was my first Mud. I had roleplayed
for years online, but had never mudded. I was terrified, I'm not that
good at video games, so I figured I'd be abysmal at Mudding. I can't
remember who did my intake with my first character, but they were
great. They not only pointed out the Newbie help files, but asked me
if I was new to mudding, then asked me a few questions and began
explaining more to me about mudding and nudged me a little in the
right direction.
Later on, I became an Immortal and I saw how hard the Immortals were
actually working and seeing they had to do more and put up with more
than I ever realized before.
I stopped being an Imm when the stress of it, roleplaying and
personal things became too much. I wasn't ready for it, I needed more
time to grow up. I should have waited before submitting my letter of
interest in being an Immortal.
I'm still at the Mud and it's changed a great deal since I've been
here. They have a newbie channel to help newbie players. The help
files have been updated and so have a number of the classes.
They also have been adding rooms and mobs. There is more to see and
do at the Mud, than I think at any time in the history of the Mud.
Combine that with great Immortals and roleplayers who, for the most
part, put a lot of effort into roleplaying and being friendly oocly
and you have a great Mud.
There are some who cross the lines of ic and ooc, it happens
everywhere. Sometimes I get frustrated at it, but it passes because
its few and far between.
The Immortals investigate PKs and they make sure that the players
arent using ooc information icly and also that they are not
metagaming, power equipping or power leveling. They make sure that
you're okay with the characters death and try to make sure the pk is
legitimate and not because of ooc reasons.
All in all, I'm glad my son pointed me to the Mud. I hope others will
stop in and take a peek. I've met a lot of great people and I'm
having a blast. Yeah, I screw up from time to time, but they let me
know and explain what I actually did that was wrong and what exactly
I'd misunderstood.
