The Second City, Chicago by Night is a heavily immersive role-playing
game set in the Old World of Darkness and Chicago, Illinois of 1926.
The mortal world is blighted by the dark underbelly of organized
crime as two battling Princes wage war for Domain of the city proper.
Torn down the middle, Chicago is separated by the North and South; as
power ploys between the Camarilla Courts devolve toward desperation
the mob families of the city grow increasingly violent and segregated
from their would-be comrades in the war against Prohibition.

Al "Scarface" Capone and the South Side Gang maintain tight control
over vast numbers of the human population as the sinister Ghoul of
the Brujah Prince in South Chicago. In the North, Bugs Moran's North
Side Gang springs up criminal enterprises to counter his southern
rival, powered by the strong blood and acute manipulations of the
Nosferatu Prince. As the Kindred puppeteers set the stages and pull
the strings, the mortal world is wracked by a seemingly endless
timeline of violence, fear and unusual economic prosperity.

The Second City features Vampire: The Masquerade, Mage: The Ascension
and Mortal+ Numinists in a true-to-life tabletop gaming environment.
We have no coded mobs to kill, no leveling and no autoquests to run.
In-Character chronicles are written as you go. To prevent surprises
for new players, an average pose-length runs at a four to six
sentence paragraph. Some players do a little more or a little less,
but either way one must expect to write - and write as well as they
can - while weaving together friendships, vendettas, forging
alliances, making enemies and composing the epic tales which
encompass character progression. We never ask for perfection - just
effort.

We feature comfortable MUD-style commands with the role-play niceties
of a MUSH, and have frequent code revisions and changes to smooth out
bumps in the system. Our community forum allows ideas, custom
material and game mechanic debates to flow freely between pbase and
staff. The community wiki project is one of the best Old World of
Darkness resources on the web (membership approval required), and
undergoes constant additions by both players and staff. XP is
rewarded weekly based upon RP recommendations made by other players,
but XP may also be gained by contributing to the community wiki
project. Combat is run almost solely by volunteer player-storytellers
(one person is nominated or volunteers themselves when a scene
requires a switch to combat), though there is a full Staff in place
to mediate or run scenes in which there is no one comfortable enough
with combat to run it. Anywhere Rooms fill in the blanks between
coded locations on the Chicago grid, allowing players to run scenes,
Storylines and Chronicles anywhere - any city, country or dimension -
they choose.

The Second City is a new game. We are still in the process of
attempting to accumulate a sound playerbase, so don't be discouraged
by brief periods of inactivity. During our busy hours there are
typically 8-10 players online and In-Character. Applications take an
average of 24 hours for reviewal and approval. Any new blood is good
blood, so come give us a try - we'd be glad to help you get to know
the game.
