For some hundred years the inhabitants of the Nine Nations of Atleah
 have peered fearfully from their windows by the light of a molten 
moon. Tortured by the strains of war and a crushing empire, they have
 watched by that red light for the impending invasion of slavering 
demons, of foreign armies, of all the nightmares of war and the dark.

In the midst of all this, the four gods who betrayed a now missing 
creator manipulate mankind and all else in the guise of mortals 
themselves. With a stranglehold on rebirth, where for every death 
there is but one life allowed to be be born, the four Sentinels have 
devised a way to purge the world of men and other innocents - and 
replace them with their own kind.
