Cold Space is a MUSH of exploration and survival horror set in the
world of dark science fiction. Humanity is down to a little over
100,000, and the fate of the species rests on the shoulders of 200
crew members that aren't exactly the best and brightest. The Earth is
gone, a carnivore race hunts the last of man to the brink of
extinction, and it's up to a group of malcontents, discipline
problems and political victims to find a way to survive.

The year was 2122, and mankind had just launched its first
interstellar colony expedition using technology provided by an
unknown alien race they had come to call the Givers. The EAV Genesis,
crewed by malcontents, discipline problems and various victims of
political intrigue launched with 100,000 civilians consisting largely
of the poor and dispossessed. It was, in short, a grand experiment
that no one wanted to take a chance on personally. It would take 10
years for the Genesis to reach a planet dubbed New Eden a little over
10 light years away, a planet three times the size of the Earth,
representing a chance to escape the severe storms brought on by
climate change, the menace of overpopulation and the decades of war
over dwindling resources. Whether it was mistrust, fear of the
unknown or something else entirely, only the Genesis was built and
launched. Most of the technology unlocked by the Givers was put to
use on Earth and the colonies on the Moon and Mars.

Six years into the trip, the command staff and essential support
personnel were taken out of stasis, four years early. They soon
learned that the colonies on Mars and the Moon had been overrun
before the Earth itself was wiped out by an alien race that had been
hunting the Givers for decades. A predatory race, the Devourers fed
only on other sentient species, and through the Givers they became
aware of mankind and preyed upon them as well. The Givers had sent
the technology to Earth so that mankind could abandon the planet
before the Devourers arrived.

But only one ship - the EAV Genesis - had been built. The outcasts of
society were now the last of mankind.
