It's now been a full year since the first release
of the Dead Souls resurrection project was made.

There have been controversies and setbacks, but
mostly fun, progress, and success.

This is how it started:

http://dead-souls.net/the_beginning.txt

And this is today:

http://dead-souls.net

I'm deliriously happy at how well things have gone,
and am grateful for the advice and support I
received here. Ok, it wasn't many, but those
who *did* advise and support, their help was
deeply appreciated.

For those who don't know, Dead Souls 2 is an LP
mudlib, aka a codebase.

There is a new LPMud promotion
and discussion site at http://lpmuds.net/forum/

The official Dead Souls Support Forum is there,
and I invite those curious or interested to
stop by.

Thanks.

-Crat

Happy Birthday to DS, good luck in present and future Crat. Though I don't use DS, I've checked it out, and its excellent.

Congrats. ;)

On a side note, any reason for so many linebreaks all the time?

It's just an awful habit...I used to have a crappy
editor that wouldn't linewrap right, and you'd have
to side scroll through one biglonghuge line.

I developed the habit of doing my own line breaks,
and it seems I'm kinda stuck in that rut.

Sorry. As bad habits go, though, could be worse.

It's now been three years since I dusted off
Dead Souls and restarted development:

http://dead-souls.net/the_beginning.txt

Though that email says September 14, I like to think
of the reborn-on date as the 13th, since that's when
I uploaded it, plus my buddy's birthday is today
so it's even easier to remember ;)

Development continues, and the DS community continues
to grow. In case you're unfamiliar with it, Dead Souls
features stuff like an on-line creator, a built-in
web server, web-based editing, numerous races and classes,
banking, intermud (IMC2 and Intermud-3), a helpful
support site, tons of examples...it's hard to list
everything really. It's designed to be both awesome
for the expert and easy for the newcomer. Heck, it
even comes with a Windows executable included, so you
don't have to try to compile the source on Cygwin.

It's been a swell time, and I've had tons of fun
doing it. I don't pretend I "do it for the community",
I just love coding and do it cuz I dig it, and all
I have to say on this rebirthday is that I've had
more fun doing this over the last three years than
anyone has any right to expect from their hobby,
and I fervently hope I am able to do it another three.

Thanks, y'all.

During a brief stint as a hobbyist carpenter I once had an
amazingly fun time creating a completely useless, crude and
uneven block of wood. I liken this to experience you have
described. But on a more serious note, I'm just kidding. I
played around with DS not long ago (Just to see what YOU
were able to come up with) and found it to be brilliant! I
loved just about every aspect of it. I would probably have
used it as a base for some random project of mine but after
asking a couple of questions and being ridiculed numerous
times by various people on IMC2 I changed my mind. I get
irritated pretty easily. Happy reBirthday DS and keep up
the good work Crat!
