Hello everyone, I have been away from the mud community for around 5 years now playing MMORPG's. I have pretty much gotten bored of all the MMO's out there right now and looking to return to the mud community. I used to play muds all the time and played my first one back in 1992 on AlexMUD. Since then I have played several others and was a builder on a couple. I even tried starting my own mud a couple of times but that never worked out because could never find a reliable coder. So I am just looking for a mud to build areas on and to call a home.

I do have some preferences but I can be open minded about where I go. It just all depends on whether or not I can understand and learn the area creation techniques of the mud in question. My preference is:

1. Some type of DIKU derivative since that is where most of my experience has been. Preferably a Circle or Silly derivative. I have also done some research into the CoffeeMUD Java codebase and it seems interesting, I am willing to give that a try also. Also some type of OLC is a requirement.

2. I have always been on some type of fantasy based mud so I would like to try something different, maybe a scifi oriented mud or maybe something in a post apocalyptic setting or shadowrun type.

3. Some place where the administration is easy to get along with. While I know that sometimes being an administrator means you have to make some hard and unpopular decisions and I understand that. I just don't want to be saddled with an administrative staff that are complete a-holes and have no respect at all for their staff and their players.

Out of the 3 requirements, the only one I insist on having is #3, the other 2 I can be flexible on. If anyone would like to talk to me about building for them, please reply to me on the forums here.

Hey, thought I'd reply here. I'm one of the builders on End of Time, a Final Fantasy based ROM mud.

The administrator, Diablos, is very easy to get along with and has proven to be a reliable person through the few years I've worked with him.

If you'd like to come by and take a look, we're at eotmud.com:4000. Diablos is on vacation right now, though. If you like what you see, send a personal note to imm and I'll get back with you.

Quite likely not what you're looking for, but since you specifically mentioned Circle I figured I'd at least mention TBA (The Builder Academy). We're not really a MUD in the sense of being a 'game' but in addition to teaching people to build there have been many builders (some teachers/staff, some not) over the years who have chosen to build zones on TBA simply because they enjoy building and because we are a friendly environment that allows people to build at their own pace. Zones built on TBA by default will not be used in the tbaMUD releases and will be, in all ways, considered to be the property of the builder, and not that of "The Builder Academy". The only zones which are packaged as a part of the tbaMUD codebase are those specifically donated to us to be used in such a way by their authors. We are also more than happy to send you copies of all zones (as well as remove them from TBA if such is requested) for you to use on a MUD you later begin working on. The main reasons in the past people have chosen to build on TBA over actual "games" in the past is largely due to TBA being incredibly stable and being a place that will not up and disappear one day without warning like many new MUDs do (we have been around since 2000).

PS: The Diablos mentioned in the post above mine goes by the name Hades_Kane on TMC. I have known him for quite a while and will confirm that he is easy to get along with if EoT at all sounded like something you'd be interested in.
