Team name: Eldhamud Code Development

Project name: The Oriental Dojo's

Brief description: A fast paced faction based player verses player combat orientated MMORPG. The
Oriental Dojo is a Kung Fu martial arts inspired game that combines elements of Kung Fu, Chinese
and Tibetan philosophy and history with fantasy and anime elements. Set in the realm of Engen Wu
the First Emperor built a monument that has come to known as The Academy, a place where the
brave and sometimes stupid can hone their skills and compete against one another.

Target aim: Non core text gamers, casual gamers, player kill fans.

Compensation: Nil, Indie Development, This game is 100% free, using technology licenced not for profit.

Technology: Smaug derived Linux game server, Windows/Linux Client. C, Lua, Delphi, OLC

Talent needed: Builders/Zone Creators, Writers, Graphic Artist

Good luck in your search mate.

Not to be overly critical, but since when do MUDS classify
as MMORPG's? MORPG's definitely but the Massively part is
usually referring to the number of players and well, I just
can't quite fathom a MUD having the playerbase of even the
smallest MMO's.

I don't think being considered massively multiplayer has
anything to do with the amount of people playing. An MMORPG
with only 2 people online is still an MMORPG is it not?
Perhaps it is more an indication of the amount of
simultaneous players that it *supports*. =)

MMORPG is a marketing term. It was made up to
describe one game, but the acronym can be
interpreted to include just about anything
that has very many online roleplayers.

For example, I sincerely believe that Wikipedia
is an MMORPG.

I think it's not that crazy to consider a mud as
being a *potential* MMORPG, but it probably should
actually have masses of players before it bills
itself as massively multiplayer.

It's not the software that makes it an mmorpg,
but rather being an actual game in the process of
serving masses of players roleplaying online.

That is why imo Wikipedia is an MMORPG, but my
installation of a Wiki on my webpage does not
qualify. One of them actually has the player mass.

Err, Wiki might be MMO Massively-Multiplayer (services
massive numbers of people) Online (It's online) but is
Wikipedia really a roleplaying game? I err can't quite
stretch that far...

LOL, i was just checking my posts on some other game development sites that i post to, and on one of them they were complaining that i used the word Hiring because it infers payment, instead i was told that i could change the title to Recruiting, so now i am raising an army instead of looking for people to join my project.

That's true too, but when there is not a lot of posting going on and your staff advert is the hot topic, you start to wonder if this is the type of attention that you would like for your project.

As a side note, i have gotten 4 decent applications so far and a number of other people expressing interest in the project so far and all of them have come from the general game development boards.

For anyone who is looking at recruiting team members i would recommend doing the same. Out of curiosity i have tallied up page views, from the 15 non Mud boards i have posted to, my posts have been viewed around 900 times, which is better exposure than the 29 views on TMS and unknown amount of views here.

Well I actually stopped by earlier and was quite surprised
with what I saw. Your mud seems to have some sort of appeal
that I cannot explain. The downloadable font certainly
helped the "feel" of it all. It seems pretty solid
considering it isn't even in testing phases yet.

LOL that was funny, Im surprised that anyone remembers me saying it. No, the font is based on a freeware monospaced font where i have added in my own glyphs to the extended ascii section of the true type font.

A number of people have said the exact same things to me, Its not like i am going anything extraordinarily different, or that i have many new and radical things. But i am happy that people are liking it, it keeps one motivated to try and get it to a more complete stage where it can be play tested.

Nope, their still on the endangered species list, but not
extinct, in fact I keep one locked up and gagged in a
closet myself. Don't I?
