I'm lookin' for help compiling a MudOS driver and setting up an LpMUD. I'm working with a Linux Bash shell and don't know how to compile, boot, load, or anything for LP. Any help would be appreciated.

But I thought "An LpMUDs coders are trained to write high quality code", and that "an LpMUDs integrity is secure in the fact that it retains professionally trained coders, not kids off the street trained to enter in values"?

Choose your mudlib first.

That will usually come with a suitably configured copy of MudOS included.

Use the 'tar' command to unpack the package - typically 'tar zxf filename.tar.gz'.

Read the instructions included.

Post again with specific questions if you have any.

Surely this post was a TMC admin joke...
Some have the idea that evolution is a system of "I need flippers, I'd better grow some."
It's more like "Haha, look at that freak with the flippers... OH CRAP, I AM DROWNING. SAVE ME FLIPPER BOY!".

olorin_q is obviously from the LPMUD variety. He must have no clue who KaVir is...

In the LPMUD world, LPC isn't compiled, so it's understandable that the would-be coder doesn't know how to compile the driver. LPC seems to be interpretted, or perhaps compiled into bytecode. Either way, I'd do my research on KaVir, olorin_q, before you start mouthing off to the creator of GodWars and Gladiator Pits...

[Tyche enters TMC]

Tyche shakes his head.

[Chat]: Tyche: I though you said that you were 'personally suited to both Lp and Diku systems, quite fluently in both codes'.

[Chat]: Tyche: So how did you compile your Diku codez?

Tyche scraches his arse.

Tyche bows.

Well I don't know what country you come from, but where I come from a "professionally trained coder" is expected to know how to compile the code as well as write it.

I don't give a damn what he created.

His post wasn't helpful at all, just sarcastic.

What's so great about GodWars, anyway?

I mean, I can see why you would all leave your noses firmly entrenched in KaVir's ass crack seeing as he's possibly probably the only one here who's accomplished anything. But, I've seen this crap before, "warning" new people that they'd better do their homework on thei illustrious KaVir before "mouthing off to him."

That's crap. KaVir was a jerk. He could've answered the question, and if he didn't know the answer, he could've ignored it. If anyone's mouthing off, it's probably me and definitely KaVir.

(Comment added by MKLNK on Sat Oct 2 21:31:57 2004)

forgive the redundant "possibly probably" coupling and the superfluous "i" in "thei".

Wierd how people dislike those who have achieved something, whats that called again, jealousy? I believe the only reason this person acted this way was because he realized he made a mistake and is trying to act brass balled about it. KaVir You are a god, and GodWars is a very nice codebase even if it isn't my codebase of choice.

If you'd actually bothered to read the thread that was linked to in my post, perhaps you'd have understood why the individual received that sort of response.

Or to put it another way: He initiated a 'bad attitude', and then got the same in return - act like an idiot and you'll get treated like one. A lesson you appear to be learning as well...

I guess I'm confused by the fact that the original poster is asking for help in starting up an LPMud, yet the same person bragged about their "skillz" and "1337ness" or whatever on the same subject previously. Not trying to harrass or be an antagonist, but...just confused.

I'm sure he read the thread the first time months ago when he was toasted under a different user name.
