The RPMUD Network Operating Committee consists of five standing members and three members elected from and by the community of Role-Play MU*s. The annual election for these three seats is the first weekend in December (Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3). Any MU* with a policy of enforced role-play may opt to run a candidate for one of the three elected seats. Only the games themselves may select a candidate for these seats but their candidate may be anyone they choose. To do so, please email staff<at>rpmud<dot>net with the name of your game's candidate, their contact information so we can verify they wish to run, and the name and contact information of your game which is sponsoring them to us by November 26. We will verify the information and contact you again before the election. We will also be emailing as many RP MU*s as we can find contact information for in the following weeks but if you see this post and know of a game that qualifies, please pass on the information. Ballots will be emailed to every RP MU* on December 2. Good luck!

Formerly the RPIMUD Network, we have expanded our focus to cover all role-play enforced games, not just RPIs. We're working on redesigning the purpose and layout of the site with an emphasis on creating a database of role-play MU*s featuring independent, third-party gathered data as well as offering critical analysis and review of such games and related articles in our quarterly journal. No clicky voting, no fanboi or flamer reviews and no advertising or commercial bias.

To manage the site, we have the 8-member Operating Committee (OC) consisting of 5 standing members and 3 elected ones representing the diversity of role-play enforced MU*s. To ensure that the OC operates without bias for or against any particular game type, we have a strictly-followed set of protocols, the RPMUD Network Charter, which details the purpose of the site and how the OC operates.

Does that answer your question? If not, feel free to email me (falco<at>rpmud<dot>net) or the general staff address (staff<at>rpmud<dot>net) and we'll do our best to answer any additional questions you have.

Take care,

Yup, that answers it. Thanks.

Do you foresee problems about those on the council favoring
their own muds? Aside from those who frequent mud forums,
people don't really know who is who on other muds, I think.
So there is a risk of people from large muds getting a lot
more votes, as they can get their players to vote for them.
Not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself necessarily,
I'm just curious if favoritism would be an issue.

Just food for thought, not trying to undermine your effort
here. I think it sounds great, and while I don't have time
to work on such a council, nor does anyone come to mind to
nominate, the idea sounds very good, and is something I'd be
interested in seeing, once brought to fruition.

Thanks again,

Gicker

Candidates are voting upon by similar MU*s. Each game receives two votes (one is applied automatically to their candidate if they running one) so big or small it doesn't really matter.

As for favoring their own MUDs, no one on the OC may review a game on which they are either staff or a regular player. Additionally, data collection and review must be conducted by two members of the OC to ensure that there is not simply a single viewpoint being expressed in the review and collection of data.

The RPMUD Network Elections are rapidly approaching and the deadline to submit a candidate is by Friday, November 27. Candidates from any Role-Play enforced/mandatory game may be chosen by whatever means the game wishes to employ and should be emailed to staff<at>rpmud<dot>net with the candidate's name, contact email and name of the sponsoring game. A confirmation email will be sent to the MU* and to the candidate to verify the candidacy.

The following is the schedule for the RPMUD Network 2009 elections:

Tuesday, November 24: Election information mailed to all open RP-enforced games with valid, available contact email addresses.

Friday, November 27: Deadline for candidate submission is midnight (PST).

Monday, November 30: Operating Committee verifies candidates as legitimate and approves ballots.

Friday, December 4: Appropriate ballots are sent to every open RP-enforced game with contact email.

Sunday, December 6: Deadline for returning ballots is midnight (PST).

Monday, December 7: Operating Committee meets to count of ballots and verify winners.

Tuesday, December 8: Winners and other candidates emailed; announcements made on webpage, TMS and TMC.

Thursday, December 31: 2009 term ends at midnight (PST).

Friday, January 1: 2010 terms begin.

Monday, January 4: First Operating Committee meeting of 2010; new members sworn in; election of chair, vice-chair and secretary.

Again, any Role-Play enforced/mandatory MU* may submit a candidate for one of the three open seats on the Operating Committee by emailing staff<at>rpmud<dot>net with the name of the candidate, their contact email and the name of the game that is sponsoring them.

Thank you and good luck to all the candidates!
