Quothe Kyndig:
sorry for downtime. the website experienced some DDOS. I
don't have the time to focus on 'fixing' the firewall, or
even fixing the software on the server. I expect to be
shutting down the text game community by weeks end. Sorry
folks, but not interested in goin through this mess again.

Have fun gaming!

MudRage is closing its doors. MudMagic will exist for mud
hosting, but MudRage has called it quits and will cease to
exist within a few hours according to his second post which
was in response to a post by me asking for clarification.

Nothing against Kyndig, but I stopped visiting MudMagic a long time ago. I didn't even know it had changed to MudRage until today. With Kyndig not able to work on the site, it just got too out-dated and non-functional, and basically ceased to be relevant. I also got the feeling that of TMS, TMC, and MM, the MM forums were not for me.

Whether as individuals we used it, the site was the second
largest mudding site, it was a great source of
advertisement (4D got most of its newbies from there
because we were always ranked #1 in Top Rated) and the code
repository was the largest of its kind (I managed to
download 249 MB of it due to frantically attempting to get
the whole thing before he shut it down but failing as it is
now closed). Whether some of us specifically didn't use it
hardly changes that the community as a whole just suffered
a massive casualty.

According to that now-defunct thread, he was going
to leave it up til the weekend, then something I,
Cratylus, said here on TMC made him shut it down this
very night.

So you can thank me for not being able to get it all.

Aside from how weird that is, I think it's just
pointless and selfish to zap the whole site just
because he doesn't feel like running it. For a lot
of people it had value, and if he didn't want to be
bothered, or it wasn't profitable, he could have
just turned it over to someone else.

Instead he's made a big dramatic point of giving
everyone the finger, taking his toys, and going home.

Interesting to me is that he took away my
account in the last 15 minutes, so I could not reply
to his post blaming me for the site being taken away
today. Dig that. Someone else was able to post, so
I know it wasn't *all* accounts that got hosed. He
actually took the time to ban *me* in the last 15
minutes before the closing the site.

It probably seems like an insignificant detail, but
for me it speaks volumes.

I agree, which well, pisses me off. I emailed him asking if
he had any intent to even think of passing it off and was
pretty much told to *CENSORED* off.

Maybe you should have used your Fizban account, because he like him and hates Drizzt. LOL, sorry i still am tickled by all that.

Ok well he could have gutted the whole thing and left the repository up till someone had the patience to mirror it all, there was a lot of history in all the code that was there.

So anyways whats next, did i mention that i managed to download all the DBZ themed engines before it shut, cause i have started work on a DBZ engine with someone. I guess with all the current happenings i might as well throw that one into the fire and give you all something to giggle at.

Heya Brandong. Don't be shocked, put yourself in my shoes bud.

I spent _thousands_ of hours teaching myself programming and designing/developmeing a community portal that happened to
be focused on something my ex-wife enjoyed. After a nice little persecution thing a few years back, I decided to step
back. When I _finally_ started working on it again, the first few replies to my "Hey! I'm excited about working on this
again!" - are along the lines of what you, crat, and others posted..well. All I can say is heh...go fly a kite =) Not
interested.

I consider that to be a polite "go *CENSORED* yourself".

Don't worry, I didn't fault you for closing the site. I do
fault you for doing it an hour later just to be petty. I
also fault you for refusing to pass it along. The concept
is totally against the whole spirit of muds. The DIKU Team
spent just as much time developing their codebase as you
did on your site, when they quit they didn't throw away
their work, they released it. What you did is like a child
that throws a tantrum. Moving away from muds I can respect,
the manner in which you did it I can't.

Shocked you thought Kyndigsucks was Tyche considering:

But I'm actually flattered getting mistaken for Tyche is
definitely a step up in my book.

I'm not really that concerned with what you call
a "ban" or not. When I tried to respond in that
thread I got this over and over and could not
log in anymore.

But someone else was able to post with no problems.

I'm happy to accept that maybe you screwed
something up on the site accidentally such that
I could not post but other people could. But
given your history with ban/filter/firewall
games, I'm not sure I'm inclined toward that
option as my first guess.

I think that your mirth is a bit out of place

you're taking the opportunity to behave in
a childish manner. It's not too late. Please

Kinda a "I use a notepad program to type/spellcheck my replies" kinda thing - very groovy.

Oh! Sorry, isn't this how folks always leave the text gaming community? In some loud obscene fashion that gets you all riled up and hating them for doing a disservice to YOU? Hmm. I'm pretty sure in my 13 years mudding, that has been my experience. I betchya there's a thesis in that somewhere...

I happen to agree with you, we all need to stop killing people off especially those new to the scene. There has been an air of change lately that you may not have noticed and some of us are taking stock of our own actions and trying to interact in a more harmonious fashion and to end many of the old rivalries.

Anyways, enjoy whatever your doing. Kyndig has left the building.

Honestly, Crat, this time you are just paranoid.
This log-in bug wasn't specifically aimed at you, quite a few of us had similar problems the days after the server switch. I got the exact same log-in screen myself a number of times, got frustrated about it, e-mailed the site admin, got a helpful reply in return, and the next day I could log in normally. The day after the same thing happened again, then it was resolved again. It was a common problem.

Anyhow, let me take this opportunity to say that I regret the closing down of a very good Mud-related site. It's a loss to the Mud community, and another nail in the coffin of Text Muds.

And you guys shouldn't pee on the corpse.

It's not just Crat that was paranoid.

Apparently Kyndig thought that the "standard IMCers" were plotting against him. By all means, myself, Samson and Crat use IMC (Drizzt does not) but we don't plot against you. Kayle said I was the only "standard IMCer" and I've never seen anyone plotting something against someone else or another MUD/site.

I'm saddened to see the end of Mudmagic/MudRage, but I can definitely understand why it is no longer an interest for you, Kyndig. I would like to take the time to wish you well in your future endeavors. You've served the MUD community for long enough that we can be at least respectful of your choices and your privacy.

Despite Samson and Kyndig's problems, even Samson is calling for people on Mudbytes to respect Kyndig's decision and privacy as he steps away and tries to get his business in order.
