NostalgiaMUD is intended to be a friendly place to hang out and enjoy an old time MUD (hence the name). While role playing is appropriate, it's not required. We have only one rule that is enforced: don't be a jerk.

While the code base is completely custom, the basic world does come from CircleMUD, though there are some extensive modifications to several of the areas. Additionally, the game play is based heavily on CircleMUD. If you're familiar with CircleMUDs, you should be able to dive right in. The most significant difference is that any player can learn any skill if they can find a teacher, though certain clases will find it easier to learn certain skills. Thus, it is possible for a warrior to learn magic or a mage to learn fighting skills.

Finally, rent is free. Or, more precisely, no renting is required.
