GodWars: Apocalypse

We have been online for over 20 years, one of the longest running GodWars MUDs in existance.

Tired of MUD's that promise HUGE changes and then vanish from the net? Tired of MUD's that claim they are superstable, and when you connect they crash non stop?

Then why not give GodWars Apocalypse a try. We are the oldest running GodWars derivative, and we will be here for a LONG TIME!!

For those of you who dont know. GodWars: Apocalypse was created in 1997 by myself(Tijer) and Shimian, after working there for a year i left and went off to make my own MUDS. In August 2006 i was given a copy of Apocalypse from 2002, by one of its coders and Majorly modified that code, which caught the eye of Zoth, one of the coders who had recoded Apocalypse, to cut a long story short he gave me permission to run a copy of the code from 2004. We are NOW GodWars Apocalypse to all of our players!

GodWars: Apocalypse features the following classes: Vampires, Werewolves, Demons, Magi and Highlanders. Each of which has what the classes have usually on God Wars. Mages and Highlanders have been recoded, to give them more powers, and more scope for change.

Along with Hybrids: Abomination(WW/Vampire), Tremere(Mage/Vampire), Baali (Demon/Vampire), Nephandi(Demon/Mage), Skindancer(WW/Mage) and Black Spiral Dancer (WW/Demon). You can hybrid yourself using the selfbrid command for a cost.

We have added a PK arena where players can test their skills at PKILL without the worry of losing status or gaining a death. Players can bet on arenas using quest points and if the person they bet on wins, they gain qps + the payoff from the bet. We have also recently added Wars, where players can win quest points, and status. There are currently 2 types, Team Wars or Last Man Standing.

GodWars: Apocalypse also has Renown, which gives players a statcap boost, and damcap boost, we also have recoded how status affects statcaps, players can gain hp/mana/move, but when they lose status their stats lower, regaining status brings them back to where they were.

Tired of your clan leader, challenge them for their leadership in arena, and if you win, you get their leader position.

Fed up with having 100's of Quest cards in your inventory? You can now upgrade your quest cards for a cost, to a maximum for 1000 points!

I would have to say I am rather disappointed this this mud I use to play it a long time ago, and recently returned. I guess there was a pfile wipe. Either way after making a few alts one of each of the core classes as you're allowed to have multiple alts, I was banned for by the creator for making new alts, and not playing the ones I had enough. Which is rather hard to do when trying to make a few (4 in total) alts for the core classes, and only having just recently returned.

I have to say the way the mud is currently run seems to be the reason why there are almost never ANY players on to speak with, kill, or other things I had been told by the few players I had seen on in the time I had spent there. I guess aside from inaccurate help files, and not being newbie friendly at all, from one who has played a number of muds and knows a good bit about them.

I am shocked to see this mud is still up when it is being run the way it is. I hope someday it goes back to the way it was run before where players could make a return, make some new alts and begin playing again, but I guess I will never know as the mud seems to be headed down the drain once again. Maybe when it dies and is opened up again under a new name and with new ownership it will be a good mud again, but as it stands it is just a sad sight to behold.

1) Pfile wipe was done in 2007 when the MUD became Rebirth of Apocalypse There had been on on the ORIGINAL mud in 2004, and to get around people losing stuff they added some STUPID code and people ended up with 100 + stats and too much exp

2) Not sure why you have posted this review, as i had spoken to you about my reasoning for banning your site (you were making alts to ask questions, that should've been asked on your main chars)

3) The MUD is in a decline i agree, this is partly due to MMORPG's such as World of Warcraft, and the fact that the immortals aren't active enough. We do however care about the MUD and we are trying to do as much as we can to get people playing again. People are slowly returning, so i recommend you give it a try again.

Note: PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE REVIEW.

Imagine yourself in a world full of chaos. People dying all around you, heads being ravenously torn off and blood spilling everywhere. You walk around, exploring the new world, finding nothing but the will to kill. You begin to train on your own and fight wild animals of all sort. As your strength builds and your skills improves, a well known Grand Master decides to take you in as her apprentice. She devotes her next 8 years to teaching you the Art of War. You grow wiser and wiser, and your mentor grows foolish and falls in love. She teaches you all she knows and the secrets of battle. Hoping for an undisputed alliance. You become too powerful. Even she starts to have a conscience mind of fear when you are around. You notice this. You wait for the sky to darken, a time when she is weak, and you have the advantage... You wipe your claws and devour her heart as dinner the same night.

Now clear that out of your mind because you won't find any of that on Rebirth of apocalypse. All you'll find is rigged characters, characters that can't kill people their size so they keep capping newbies, and imms that play favorites and rig characters, although I will give them one thing. There are several players that are excellent newbie helpers. If you want to learn how to mud, this is a good spot. If you want to play a balanced mud where skill is required to pk, Keep looking.

I am not sure WHICH Apocalypse you are playing but there is no immortal rigging here. Now if you go back to 2006 (before my time of running the mud) there was RAMPANT cheating by the immortals. I do NOT allow ANYONE to rig their alts, and as far as i know there are none! The immortals currently on Apocalypse have been long term players since 2007.

Yet again a negative review from someone claiming to have been a player AND an immortal?? (not fired any immortals recently so obviously a blatant lie)

Being a fan of the Godwars codebase since I first played back in 1997, I was always in love with my home mud. Godwars: Apocalypse was a great mud with wonderful players and staff members. Closing down many years later, Rebirth of Apocalypse was formed.

This mud is run by what people today would call a tyrant. Demeaning chars on his mud constantly, the owner of this mud is a WONDERFUL coder. To run a mud though, is a different story. I believe in one main thing when playing a mud, and that is balance. This mud has semi-balance with the owner not open for suggestions towards attaining maximum balance. His tyranny overrules all, and it makes the place not so fun to play at.

Most people say they keep coming back because of the players that are there. I am one of those people. I don't think the imms care about the players. They care about the numbers, and that is NOT the way to run a mud. The newbie aspect of the game is excellent, however if you plan on playing a mud where balance is an issue for you, skip this mud because it is not the best place ATM.

This person is probably someone who has forgotten how to play the MUD. Rebirth of Apocalypse is probably one of the most balanced GodWars MUDs out there. We strive to balance classes instead of adding countless, useless new ones.

Rebirth of Apocalypse is the continuation of the MUD GodWars: Apocalypse.

I have been around since its creation in 1997. Rebirth of Apocalypse aims to fix the problems that ocurred when the ownership of the original MUD passed in 2005 to new people.

We have already made the mud MUCH more friendly and inviting with the addition of colors, colors in my opinion make the mud more welcoming. We have also added a player arena where players can test out their PK skills, without the chance of getting decapitated.

Why should you play RoA? I think Rebirth of Apocalypse is how GodWars was supposed to be when KaVir made it in 1995, we dont have many rules, apart from no exp/qp botting, or player harassment. We are MUCH more than just a MUD we are a way of life. We have a dedicated set of players who connect every day of the week without fail. Our immortals whilst do enforce rules and punish players are approachable, we always listen to players ideas and make decisions on whether those ideas are to be added.

The Immortals of Rebirth of Apocalypse are mature, and know how to RUN muds, most of us have been doing so for 10 years or more.

We are always adding new features for players, and there is always something in the works.

Now you may say i am biased, as i own the place, so come on by and check us out, im sure you will not be disappointed.

I use to play apocalypse back in the day, I'm happy they brought this back. Even though the playerbase isn't up to speed yet, the Imms are still active and making changes all the time.

The thing about Rebirth that I like the most is that you have to work for your gains. A lot of godwars muds out there have it very easy to gain stats, and you advance too fast. In this mud you have to work for what you get. I would like to see more players in the future, it's worth connecting and giving it a try.
