Note: We are a new game, rebooted with a fresh setting and upgrade
to Second Edition. This is a good time to join and fill important
roles in the city!

The Parish of Casterlay boasts the seaside Castle Marrach -- seat
of the Earl of Dorset -- and the sprawling town and port
sandwiched between it and the English Channel. The County Capitol
is a common stop-off for travelers and merchants moving between
Britain and the Mainland. A unique position in war-abandoned
England, the castle town at the foot of Marrach is remarkably
wealthy and prosperous -- the drain of King Richard's war has
placed little to no strain upon commerce in Casterlay, making it
a much-coveted sliver of land and power.

With great numbers of English from Nobility to freemen flocking
to the prosperous city, powerful Merchant Guilds have sprung up
seemingly out of nowhere in effort to support, employ, and -- in
the case of the Troubadours -- entertain the masses. The Parish
deals mostly in trade with the Mainland; thick forests make for
healthy trade for trappers and hunters selling meat and skins.
Gatherers make livings plucking the wild-growing fruits and
vegetables in the Maelgwn Wood -- a place widely-believed cursed,
frequented solely by those familiar and brave enough to pass
beneath the watchful eyes of the trees. Great hosts of fishing
ships support the better part of the city's needs for sustenance,
with Casterlay Couse -- a thick, heavy cod stew -- being a
signature regional dish.

Around the outskirts of the city the Parish falls quickly into
lawlessness; the heavy woods make it difficult for the Earl's
soldiers to patrol, and there are few such soldiers left for use.
Casterlay may be faring well in comparison to the majority, but
poverty caused by the Crusades are still keenly felt in the
lowest rungs of society. Large numbers of the peasantry turn to
banditry to get by, and the forests hugging Castle Marrach's
walls make easy hide-outs for thieves to lay in wait for a
merchant passing -- there are many such merchants, not all of
which are wealthy enough to support mercenary guards for their
caravans.

Supernaturals maintain spheres of influence in every level of
society; from the Lancea Sanctum in the Holy Inquisition to
the Lady Anne of Weston, Dawn Queen of the Lost Freehold,
everything from vampires to faeries, werewolves and mages have
their place.
