I'll start off first with what I am looking for, then I will follow with what I bring to the table.
I am looking for an established mud, which means has been around for at least 6 months, and has a steady player base 10+ at most any given time. An active staff is also a must. I really am not interested in the theme or anything like that, just finding a mud with players who will appreciate the work I put into the game. I realize most muds like this won't need a programmer, but there's always RL issues that come up and a spot opens.
Now what I bring to the table: I extensive c/c++ programming knowledge (close to 10 years for C), a degree is computers, and a job where I get paid to write C code. I have done mud programming on and off for 4+ years. I can translate most any idea into code if it is feasible. Just some examples of custom things I have done (custom not meaning idea, but programming): 1. Random Objects, Mobiles, Areas. Started off as separate and eventually put together into a "Wilderness" type area that loads more and more based on the number of players online. 2. Event System. Allows the code to set things to happen in the future, mainly used to keep track of whether a player has too many of an item type for a given length of time. 3. Mobile based tasks: Lets a mob have a task that consists of steps they take to complete it. Ie. taskdecap would consist of searching, attacking, and decapitating a player. 4. Player Houses, home guardians, player lockers. 5. Logging of characters roleplay sessions to immortals to be rewarded at a later time if no one is available to watch (for rp muds) 6. General Debugging skills, gdb. Able to debug most any crash and increase the uptime of the mud. Last mud had uptime of 20+ days if no new code was being copyed in. 7. etc.
