TMC Forum Rules

TMC's goal is to provide a safe environment where people of diverse backgrounds can openly and freely discuss MUD topics, and all users should keep that goal in mind while posting.

Posts should remain on topic and in the proper forum, but users are welcome to create new threads for tangential lines of discussion. A Community Manager may also opt to split tangential discussion into a new thread, to keep the original on topic.

Posts on the staffing/promotions board must be on topic and relevant to the original poster's requests. Please create a new thread if something in a promotion thread concerns you instead of replying in the promotional thread directly.

Uploading, linking or otherwise promoting offensive material is expressly forbidden, including but not limited to pornographic, obscene or otherwise illegal material.

If chat logs are used in a discussion, please omit names that would identify participants unless all parties agree to have their names presented. Note that chat logs must follow the rules regarding appropriate content.

It is expected that disagreement and heated debate might arise, but please remember to be respectful and courteous to each other. Flaming and trolling are examples of types of discussion that is discouraged. While up to the discretion of each Community Manager, flaming will be considered posts that contain personal attacks and serves no purpose other than to harass, ridicule, or insult another user, while trolling will be considered to be posts or a pattern of behavior that serves no purpose other than to incite, enflame, or "bait" another user into an aggressive reply. All instances of insults on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or sexual identity will be considered flaming.

We encourage users to make liberal usage of the ignore user feature in instances in which repeated, heated discussion, debate, or arguments have formed a pattern that suggests two users are unable to get along. We also encourage use of the personal messaging system for discussions that are essentially two posters arguing with one another without contributing anything else to a discussion thread. If another user is sending you personal messages that you do not wish to receive or find abusive, please add them to your ignore list.

Please use the 'report to moderator' link to report posts that you reasonably believe have not gathered the attention of the Community Managers. If you need to communicate directly with the moderators, please use the personal message system as opposed to the report feature. Please do not use this feature as a means to try to target another user you do not like; the ignore feature would be the best way to handle those instances.

If staff see something heated or potentially problematic, but not necessarily bad, a request to refocus the discussion will be posted on the thread. No further action will be taken unless the request fails.

If staff see a genuine problem, a warning will be provided, along with an explicit statement about what the issue is and what will happen if it continues. If necessary, staff will clean up any undesirable content (eg, pornography or copyright infringement).

If the problem continues after staff have provided a warning, a time ban will be provided.

If staff have issued a time ban previously with a particular user, and the need for additional warnings continue, the user will be evaluated for a permanent ban.
