Horror

i work on a MOO with horror as a central theme, and i wanted to gather opinions from outsiders to try to formulate some ideas on how to go about making more effective spooks.

i'm not looking for 'OOGA BOOGA SCARY' which is straight up impossible to do in text form anyway, but ideas for something that creates an extremely disturbing or creepy image/situation inside the head of the player.

one thing i've thought about is getting away with things impossible to do in 3D game engines, such as abstract geometric manipulation.

There was a game way back in the day (late 80's early 90's) at the start of thought provoking horror games that really freaked me out. It was called Phantasmagoria. It was scary because of the slow paced creepy themes within it not for any "shock" factor.

So if you think in terms of story and dementia rather than shock I think you will do well. Detail and depth et al. :-\
