New Space System on d20MUD
« on: August 24, 2017, 6:31 PM »
Hi all,

Just wanted to offer a heads up that we've altered our space system to allow for multi room ships.  We've added a lot of ship types with more to come, and removed a few that didn't make sense given our era.  We also have a new coder on board, Liam, and are excited at many new additions coming into play soon.

Come check us out: http://www.d20mud.com/ mud.d20mud.com 6000

Cheers,

What is a multi room ship, is it a really big ship, or is it rooms within the ship?

It's more the latter at this stage.  Prior to this change, all ships were a single 'virtual room'.  With this change ships follow more closely along the SWR style space system, wherein you board a ship on the ground or docked at a space station, and within the ship you can then launch it into space.  Most fighters are still single rooms, but there are a number of ship types that allow you to move around inside the ship, with some players getting a player house set up inside their ship where they can leave items and whatnot.

The ship stats, module system, upgrade system and combat are still the same, done similarly to d20/SAGA edition rules.

The multi-room setup is also paving the way for player or droid manned turrets, as well as larger ships like corvettes, frigates and capital ships.  We'll be taking a page from Star Trek Online's book there, with these larger ships being built collectively by factions (Rebels, Empire & Hutts) and then manned by crew which the faction devotes further resources to paying salaries for, training, etc.  These ships will be used in a planetary conquest system, wherein rulers of a given system receive faction-wide benefits for controlling that system, with each system offering a different set of benefits.

Anyway, more than you asked, but yeah... multi room ships :)

Thanks for clarifying.  I know ships in the Star Wars universe come in every size with some large capital ships.  Would be odd for a star destroyer to be the same size as an y-wing.

Glad to assist.  We've also added a number of new era-appropriate ship types.  Things are really coming together space-wise, and lots more to come.
