I think it depends on how intelligent the species are and how "morally good" they are in terms of preservation.
Would this matter. I mean are we talking coexistence with no conflict? I would think you can coexist and still dislike even kill the other like gators and hippos. They exist in a pond until food is scarce and then they might fight.

Life only has one directive: survival. Ant, tree, bacteria, etc. all fight to live. Until humanity can set aside instinct for pure logic, we are just another branch of idiot freaks running from the lightning.

Survival is important but not the only directive. Reproduction is one.  Entertainment is another.  There have been many documentations about animals having fun.
